I enjoy rescuing paintings from thrift stores and finding ways to add my own story to them. I’ve done a fair few over the years. Many have gone on to other homes, but here’s one that’s currently up on my wall: A Masked Figure Fishing. It’s a simple, idyllic moment, with some ominous vibes.
I can’t identify the original painter, but I’m fairly certain this is a mass produced piece of art. I’ve been hunting for paintings in thrift stores for a while, and I’ve started to see patterns. The original painting is in a similar style, colour palette, and composition to many that I have waiting in the wings for me to work with. I’ve also seen similar paintings in other people’s houses. It’s a mystery! I’ve heard of painting mills churning out stuff in places like China, but I don’t know much about them. I am curious, though, and it’s on my list of things to learn more about.
